The International School of Hamburg (ISH) was founded in 1957 as the first international school in Germany. Today we are an independent, state-recognised, coeducational day school which offers an educational program delivered in English from nursery right through to university entry qualification (ages 3 – grade 12). ISH is proud to be an IB World School, offering the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme since October 1978. In August 2013 ISH became candidate school for the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (IB MYP). ISH is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) and the Council of International Schools (CIS).
Our school’s mission is to provide our students with an international education which seeks to develop their full potential and to foster understanding, respect for others, freedom of thought and expression, enjoyment of learning and personal responsibility. Our students and their successes in and outside of the classroom illustrate our commitment to this mission and to the future of our global citizens.
Since January 2010, we reside in the western suburb of Groß Flottbek, about 10 km west of the city centre, opposite Hamburg’s beautiful Botanic Gardens.
Reach us by Air
Hamburg’s only airport ‘Hamburg-Fuhlsbüttel’ is located north of the city centre. A taxi ride from the airport to our school takes approx. 30 minutes. Alternatively, the train line S1 runs directly from the airport to walking distance of our school.
Reach us by Train or Bus
The nearest train (S-Bahn) station, ‘Klein Flottbek’, is a 12 minute walking distance from the school, along the picturesque ‘Wanderweg’ which runs parallel to the botanical gardens. Take the train line S1 or S11 in the direction Wedel or Blankenese.
The school is serviced by the bus lines 21 and 283. To find public transport connection details from your location to the school click here.
